Montessori Peaks Academy Parent Teacher Association

Montessori Peaks Academy PTA is a 501 (c)(3) organization consisting of MPA staff and parents/guardians who care about the future of our school and the success of our children.

PTA's mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

Your PTA Officers:

President: Caitlin Coney president@mpeakspta.org

Vice President: Caitlin Gardino vp@mpeakspta.org

Treasurer: Megan Sanders treasurer@mpeakspta.org

Secretary: Anna Marcuerquiaga-Hughes secretary@mpeakspta.org

Please feel free to reach out to any of us with any questions or to find volunteer needs.  The PTA fulfills our mission through the following functions and we can always use your help to make our school and community great!

Fundraising:

The PTA has two types of fundraisers, passive and volunteer driven.  Our passive fundraising efforts include programs like Spiritwear, Amazon Smile, King Soopers Community Awards, and purchases at our Memberhub store.  Through these programs family members and staff generate funds for our school simply by doing the shopping they were going to do anyway.  (check out the Spiritwear and Donation Partners tab for all the info.)

Our volunteer driven fundraisers include Dewey’s Dash and our Spring Fundraiser.  By utilizing volunteers for these fundraisers the PTA is able to retain nearly all of the generated funds for the benefit of our school and students.  The success of these fundraisers depends of the level of volunteer support they receive.

You can attend any PTA meeting for an up to date financial report of budget to actuals.   Periodically we receive additional funding requests or need to make budget updates as best laid plans change.  We make these changes only in our general membership meetings where our members can cast their vote on the matter.

Community Events:

The PTA sponsors many community events such as the Back to School Social, Trunk or Treat, the Spring Socials for the elementary students, the MPA Talent Show and Year End Social. If you would like to volunteer for any of these events or have a suggestion for a different or additional community event please contact us at: president@mpeakspta.org.

Programs:

The PTA sponsors programs like First Lego League, and Jr. First Lego League. First Lego League challenges our older students to think like scientists and engineers while Jr. First Lego League engages our younger students and introduces them to STEM concepts using LEGO elements.  We also fund Grants to MPA for things like Outdoor Education which offers our students experiential learning through nature and an outdoor environment, Classroom Grants to help with purchasing classroom materials, Professional Development for our staff, and much more.

Why should I join PTA?

Front and center to the MPA PTA mission is fostering a sense of community and a place where all our children can learn and grow.  As a member you receive informational updates and the ability to cast you vote on all MPA PTA matters.  PTA offers all parents and caregivers the opportunity to be engaged in their child’s potential. Being a member of PTA means that you are part of a powerful association and action plan that is focused on programs and initiatives that strengthen your child’s education.

PTA membership and dues support your child by funding essential educational and curriculum needs; advocating on behalf of children and educators at the local, state and national levels; and building an inclusive school community for all families. Join PTA for your child because increasing our membership, even by one, makes it possible to provide important educational resources, speak up on important issues and create a stronger school community.

Joining also puts you on our email list for meeting changes/links/updates, updates on our community events as well as communication about volunteer needs our PTA may have.

Where does my money go when I pay membership dues?

PTA dues directly support your child. PTA dues help fund essential school resources and curriculum needs, including chromebooks and montessori materials. PTA dues support advocacy efforts at the local, state and national levels, impacting decisions affecting your child’s health, safety and quality of education. PTA dues support our work to strengthen connections between your family, your child’s classmates and their families, and teachers to build a thriving and inclusive community for everyone.

Does PTA membership require volunteering and attending meetings?

The only thing required of you to be a member of PTA is to pay the annual membership dues. Beyond that, however you choose to PTA is up to you. PTA offers all parents and caregivers the opportunity to be engaged in their child’s potential. From volunteering at school events to participating in local, state and national advocacy efforts to holding PTA leadership roles – the level of involvement is up to you. There is no wrong way to PTA!

How much time do I have to commit to being a member of PTA?

Membership in PTA can involve as much or as little time as you have to offer. There is no wrong or right way to be involved – anything you can give, whether it’s time or money, will support your child’s potential.

Isn’t PTA a social club for stay-at-home moms?

First and foremost, PTA is for every family who has a child at the school. PTA is for moms, dads, caregivers, grandparents, teachers and the broader community!

While some of the work done by PTA may appear purely social – including family events like game nights that are organized to strengthen the school community – much of PTA’s work focuses on funding essential school resources and curriculum needs, as well as advocating at the local, state and national levels, impacting decisions affecting your child’s health, safety and quality of education.

How does PTA ensure it represents every child and family at the school?

We encourage every family in the school to become a PTA member to support the success of their child. We want a diverse membership base that reflects all of the families and needs of students at the school. PTA strengthens connections between your family, your child’s classmates and their families and teachers to build a thriving and inclusive community for everyone.
